West Ham are discussing a possible deal for Joey Barton with the 32-year old free agent currently undergoing a medical.
Barton had been working for TV and radio over the weekend and joked he was the best player in the ground during Saturday's game between Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
But he will now agree a contract with the Hammers after keeping himself fit over the summer.
Marseille and Lorient have shown interest in the Huyton-born midfielder who left QPR at the end of the season.
Slaven Bilic wants cover in the defensive midfield position where Reece Oxford excelled against Arsenal.
They have been in constant dialogue with Alex Song but he remains injured while Napoli's Gokhan Inler is leaning towards a move to Leicester.

Wrapped round decent players he might be decent for a season or 2 and surprise a few people.
If anything it means Nolan's a bit closer to the exit door.

The same Austin who went completely missing against the mighty QPR at the weekend
With Payet, Cresswell, Obonga, Sakho etc I thought the club were going in a new exciting direction.Barton & Austin are very Allardyce esque lower mid table hopefuls at best
